Shopping For Dignity + Friday Follow

Ok, this pic has nothing to do with the rest of the post but seriously ... WTF is my kid doing in his crib at naptime that makes him wakeup with hair like this? Wrestling teddy bears?

Anyways .... so yesterday, prior to my extra-fun trip to the walk-in clinic I was actually bra shopping with my mom. The reason? Breastfeeding has been finished for a while, and the girls have, er, changed their look so-to-speak. And I guess I felt like my mom needed to be there to share in this momentous occasion. We're tight like that.

The last time I was in a lingerie store with mom was about 10 years ago. At one point during that ill-fated shopping trip I remember picking up a purple bra and saying to her, for some inane reason "Wow, don't you think this is pretty?".

To this day I'm not exactly sure what response I was expecting, but her making a face and retorting "Blech. No. Purple's a whore's colour" was not what I had envisioned. Yet thats what she said. Loudly. And me, being 21 and embarrassed at the outspokenness of my mother, actually tried to counter-argue by saying "Uh, I thought it was traditionally, like, for royalty or something". She snorted "Yeah, maybe for royalty whores".

So that was my last lingerie experience with mom. This time actually didn't go so bad; she watched Mason while I got properly measured by the sales girl and tried on a few different options before finally deciding on my purchase. In fact, she even agreed with my choice of nude for a colour because it was "practical".

"I don't know why they have all these other colours of bras out there, Andra. They're useless unless you're wearing a shirt in that exact same colour. Who wants their bra showing through their shirt? Now, nude you know you're not wasting your money with. It goes with everything"

The sad part? I actually agree with her.

*sigh*  You know you're getting old when your bra choices and boobs begin to mimic those of your mother's.

This week also marks my first try at joining a "blog hopping" party. Since I'm a total fool when it comes to technology I'm sure I'll mess this up somehow, but here goes! I'm now joining the Brand-Spanking New Friday Follow!

  3. First of all, you're blog is awesome! Secondly, yes, it's a sad day when you go with the same bra colors your mother did because you realize she was right...sad and good, 'cause now you've got the right bra. :-)

I nursed three girls. The only thing that puts me back where I used to be is the Victoria's Secret Miracle. It lives up to its name. It's pricey, so I only have one. In nude. :-)

Thank you for coming by my blog! Your blog is awesome! I'm definitely following!

  6. Speaking of post-nursing ta-ta changes, Victoria Secret's Miracle Bra has done wonders for my post-nursing ta-ta self esteem (and I bought it in nude for the same practical reasons). Just thought I'd share that little tid-bit with you.

  10. You may have the same mom as a good friend of mine. Sounds just like something her mom would say! I'd love to participate in more Friday Follows, but that would require I actually turn on the computer at a specific time on a specific day :) And Mungee doesn't like that.
